Identify This Oldie!
Hello,
I have been looking for the name of a song that I heard back in the mid to late 70s. I do not know the name of the artist nor do I know the name of the song. Quite a challenge, huh?
What I do remember is the following:
The song is about a young man who falls in love with a young girl who is 15 at the time. He describes how she walks, talks, color of her eyes, etc. Here's the hook: the devil owns her soul. He leaves her and 18 years later meets a woman, falls in love and marries her. She is thirty-three.
The back up singers begin to figure out the the two women are one in the same and began to sing:
Hey, have you noticed your wife the way she walks,
Hey, have you noticed your wife the way she talks.
Have you noticed the color of her eyes,
Hey, I think you're in for a big surprise
Fifteen and eighteen is thirty-three
Fifteen and eighteen is thirty-three
I heard this song while listening to KGFJ & KDAY radio stations in Los Angeles, CA. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- ezfreak

HI:
I just happened to come across a post in About.com where you asked someone to
identify an oldies song from the 70s that had everyone stumped. Part of the
lyrics were “fifteen and eighteen is thirty-three.” The post was dated August,
2003 so I don’t know if you have already found the title and artist. In case
you have not, the title is “Abyssinia Jones” by the late Edwin Starr. I
remembered the haunting song but not the title or artist from when I was about
11 or 12.
It is such a coincident because I had been looking for song for around seven
years. During the first year I did not even know the title or artist until
someone told me. Still for years I could not find the song anywhere. If you go
to AllMusicGuide.com and look up the name Edwin Starr the song is listed on one
of his old albums but still the song is not mentioned in the bio. I have looked
in many different record stores but this particular song was never available.
Starr is most remembered for his anti-war song titled “War”.
I even went to his official web site a few years ago and emailed them to get
some information and I received no reply.
Only about a week ago I decided to try ebay.com. Even though I have ordered
many things from various internet portals I had never ordered anything from
ebay. That is odd enough. But wonder of wonders I found a record store that
had it for sale and I bought. It was just delivered in the mail yesterday and I
could not wait to play it. You may want to go to Ebay, I beleive there are
still others to purchase.
Yours,
Stormy
