Freddie and the Dreamers' Freddie dies at 65
Saturday May 20, 2006
Freddie Garrity, leader of the '60s Manchester pop-rock group Freddie and the Dreamers, has died at 65 after years of suffering from emphysema and related illnesses. The group, best known in the States for "I'm Telling You Now" and the dance novelty "Do The Freddie," was a mainstay of the British Invasion, the comic relief to the Beatles-Stones axis and quite beloved in their homeland.Freddie had toured with a new version of the Dreamers from 1976 until 2001, when he was stricken with the condition while on a plane home from a New York gig. Garrity is survived by four children from three marriages; his third wife, Christine, was at his bedside at the Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor, North Wales when he passed on.
