Profile: James Brown

I've updated and expanded my profile on the late and much lamented James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul" who helped define R&B, midwife soul music, create funk almost all on his own, and inspire disco and hip-hop. There may be no single performer who better embodied the African-American musical experience of the 20th century, and now, after his sudden Christmas Day passing, I look back at just what sort of genius (if personally troubled) legacy he left us all.
