US Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann may have won the meaningless Iowa GOP straw poll Saturday, but that didn't stop her from making an unfortunate gaffe about the King of Rock and Roll while taking a victory lap at a campaign event in Spartanburg, SC. Speaking to a crowd at the local drive-in restaurant The Beacon, Bachmann declared:
"Before we get started, let's all say 'Happy Birthday' to Elvis Presley today. Happy Birthday! ...you can't do better than Elvis Presley. And we thought we'd celebrate his birthday as we get started the celebrating Take Our Country Back tour!"
Unfortunately, what she thought was Elvis' birthday (January 8) was actually the anniversary of his death (August 16, 1977). It is unclear why she mentioned Elvis in South Carolina, as he was born in Tupelo, MS, and gained fame in Memphis.
