The nominees for the 2013 Grammy Awards were announced last night, and several oldies artists were among those honored: Paul McCartney (Kisses on the Bottom) and Carole King (A Holiday Carole) were both nominated for Traditional Pop Vocal Grammys, and Bruce Springsteen's "We Take Care of Our Own" got nods for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song; his Wrecking Ball is also up for Best Rock Album.
The big news is Dr. John's Blues Album nomination for his spectacular comeback Locked Down; perhaps the biggest surprise is Tom Waits' Best Alternative Music Album nod for Bad as Me. Other oldies artists were nominated in less-than-shocking categories: Ry Cooder's Election Special for Folk Album, and possible awards for Jimmy Cliff and Toots and the Maytals for Reggae Album. Janis Ian's Society's Child: My Autobiography is up for a statuette in the Audiobook category. The 55th Grammy Awards will be broadcast February 10, 2013 on CBS.
