Elvis Presley's Palm Springs Home Shuttered Amid Controversy

By February 20, 2013

Follow me on:

The Palm Springs home of Elvis Presley, which served as the West Coast center of operations for The King and his "Memphis Mafia" during the early '70s, is being closed down -- due to an alleged deception by its current owner. Reno Fontana, who purchased the residence in 2004, was evicted by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office recently after continued failure to make payments, all while reportedly offering tours of the home for profit. (Fontana had originally planned to call the million-dollar retreat "Graceland West," but the owners of the more famous mansion absolutely refused.) Good news, however: whatever Fontana's fate, the city is still very much interested in reopening the single-story Spanish-style ranch house to the public.
