Dionne Warwick Files for Bankruptcy

By March 26, 2013

Follow me on:

Dionne Warwick, one of the most successful singers of her generation whose elegant pop-soul hits ruled over the charts for more than two decades, filed for bankruptcy protection in New Jersey last week, claiming just over $25,000 in assets and a whopping $10 million in debt. The chanteuse behind "Walk On By," "Then Came You," and "That's What Friends Are For" is claiming that despite a half-century in the music business, she only takes home $10 from a monthly $20,000 income. Some of it apparently goes towards paying off a former manager and a whopping Visa bill, according to her 50-page filing, but most of her debt is owed in federal and state taxes. However, Warwick also claims to pay her personal assistant $4,000 a month, as well as $5,000 a month to her personal assistant, which may be what lawyer Kevin Sasaki meant when he claimed his client had engaged in "negligent and gross financial mismanagement."
