Did Jimi Hendrix hate surf music?

By Robert Fontenot, About.com

Question: Did Jimi Hendrix hate surf music?
Answer: This is a popular myth perpetuated because, during Jimi's epic 1967 psych-jazz instrumental "Third Stone From The Sun," one can clearly hear the guitarist intoning the words "You'll never hear surf music again." At the time, it was taken to mean that Hendrix' style of playing would overtake traditional rock guitar, but Jimi himself explained that it was a tribute: Dick Dale had been stricken with rectal cancer a few months earlier, and Jimi had been told -- erroneously -- that Dale had died. (Dick is still alive today.)
