What are the great post-dance craze Sixties dance songs?

By Robert Fontenot, About.com

Question: What are the great post-dance craze Sixties dance songs?
Answer: Contrary to popular opinion, dance-oriented singles did not die out once the British Invasion hit, although they did tend to gravitate more towards the R&B end of the spectrum, specifically in groove-oriented cities like Memphis. A list of the better-known mid-and-late-Sixties dance records might include:

"Boogaloo Down Broadway," The Fantastic Johnny C (1967)
"Cool Jerk," The Capitols (1966)
"Do The Funky Chicken" (1970), "(Do The) Push & Pull" (1971), Rufus Thomas
"The Horse," Cliff Nobles & Co. (1968)
"Mother Popcorn," "Let A Man Come In And Do The Popcorn, Pts. 1 & 2," James Brown (1969)
"Ride Your Pony," Lee Dorsey (1965)
"Tighten Up," Archie Bell & The Drells (1968)
