Question: Why did John Lennon's killer want him dead?
Answer: The murderer of John Lennon had, by 1980, begun to mentally turn on Lennon the same way he would turn on his "little people" (see above entry). As his own world disintegrated, fed by a series of failed jobs, his aborted college career, and mental disorders that went largely untreated, he began to subconsciously blame Lennon, especially after seeing photos that depicted John's wealth in the book One Day At A Time. John, he decided, was a phony, a hypocrite, a rich man singing about peace and love but unwilling to actually make changes in the world. At the same time, the killer decided that taking the life of someone so famous would, finally, make his life meaningful. According to his own testimony, however, the two sides of his personality -- good and evil -- warred until the very last minute before the murder. The facts bear him out somewhat on that point.
