Answer: It may not be big business, but shag is entrenched in the culture, especially in South Carolina. The Society of Stranders, Inc. and the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs together form the biggest national shag dance organization, while the Association of Beach and Shag Club DJs is fairly self-explanatory. The Carolina Beach Music Academy gives annual awards for artists, DJs, clubs, radio stations, and dancers, while the Beach Music Association International seeks to take the musical phenomenon worldwide.
