News In Brief... Beach Boys stop suing, Beatles begin suing, ABBA drummer passes on
Saturday March 22, 2008
Could Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine finally put their differences aside and reunite? That's the buzz after the recent Los Angeles Supreme Court ruling, which finally settles years of legal disputes between the surviving members of the legendary band. Jardine's attorney, Lawrence Noble, certainly sounds optimistic about the future of the band, even if he's not making details of the settlement public: "Certainly everybody would love [a reunion]," he said Wednesday, "but we're taking it a day at a time... We've cleared out a lot of negative history, we're looking forward to the future, and hopefully a lot of good things will happen." Stay tuned... The Boys' onetime friendly rivals The Beatles, however, are back in court, attempting to block the release of those recently discovered tapes from their Hamburg days. Although Beatles experts remain skeptical about the eight supposedly unreleased recordings to surface from these shows, recorded during Ringo Starr's first gig with the group, that isn't stopping the Fabs' lawyers, who claim the tapes "dilute and tarnish the extraordinarily valuable image associated with" the band...
Longtime ABBA drummer Ola Brunkert, thought to be the only drummer appearing on every album from the '70s Swedish supergroup, has been found dead at his house in Mallorca, Spain, the apparent victim of an accident wherein a piece of window pane slashed his throat. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy results.
