Question: Are the classic girl groups still performing today?
Answer: The biggest vocal names in the girl groups do still perform from time to time -- Diana Ross and Mary Wilson of the Supremes (though not together), Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love, as well as many solo vocalists who worked in the girl-group sound, although they rarely stay in that style for long these days (Dusty Springfield, Lesley Gore). However, original, authentic girl groups rarely perform these days, even on the oldies circuit; in many cases, the performers never had the rights to the name in the first place! (For more on this phenomenon, see the oldies copycat groups page of this site.) Occasionally, however, an act like the Murmaids or the Shangri-Las will regroup for a tour; check the oldies music concerts section for info on those reunions.
